Hey there, my name is Dalton Dewar and I’m a social media, blogging, and personal development coach. The purpose of this site is to provide you with valuable tips, content and information as it pertains to online marketing, social media secrets, entrepreneurship, personal growth and development. My goal is to empower you along your journey to true freedom. I have an incredible zest for life, as a result I push myself to reach my highest potential…And that’s what I want YOU to do as well.
So where does my passion comes from…?
My father came to United States, from the Island of Jamaica as an illegal immigrant. As he tells his story after many years of working in mediocre jobs and avoiding immigration and paying unscrupulous individuals thousands of dollars to help him become a citizen; he finally met the right person that helped him to attain his citizenship. After receiving his citizenship, he took his large family from Jamaica to live here. I am the last of five kids, when I was born my father was already in this country, I met him when I was eleven years old.
My early years in the United States was very difficult. Can you imagine seven people living in a one bedroom apartment? It was very cramp and tight living. We used to have those pull-out couches and that’s where all the kids would huddle up at night to sleep. From our one bedroom apartment we would eventually move into the projects. At the time it seemed like an upgrade; we had an additional two bedrooms. The downside was that the neighborhood so crime infested, we could not event to go to park…it was horrible. I remember not having winter jackets until late November; it was brutal going to school trying to brace the cold without the bare necessities. I am eternally grateful to some blessed church folks that stopped by my home to give us some used jackets until my parents could saving enough to purchase a new one. I was often embarrassed about taking food stamps to the store, knowing that if my friends saw me it would be the biggest story in school…I was petrified. However, throughout our entire ordeal of struggling financially not parents taught and encouraged us not lost faith; everything would eventually workout.
Event that changed my life…
I was rather shy and introverted; I was especially intimidated by being in front of an audience. I needed to step out of my shell and find a platform that would allow me to express myself and realize my true potential and worth. I was too afraid to find the platform for myself. But I found a border buster in my biggest fan; my mother. Border buster, you know what they are, don’t you? They are the individuals that comes into our lives to help us burst through intimidation, fear, rejection, low self-esteem and worthlessness to help you realize your potential.
What is the best way to develop a leader? My border buster (my mother) did not have a degree in leadership, nor did she attend an ivy league college, infact, she never attended any institution of higher learning, but she had great leadership skills that she learned in the school of hard knocks. Her curriculum in teaching me to burst through my border consisted of one line; “throw him in the frying pan”. In this case the frying pan was enrolling me into drama classes. My reaction was my mom has lost her mind…she knows that public speaking is my biggest fear! My mom is very nice, but she has a built in DNA that is marked, “I do not negotiate with my kids”. Knowing that this trait was part of my mother’s DNA, I had no choice; I gave in to her request.
After my first session of drama classes, I came home absolutely devastated and dejected when I was told by the instructor that I would not make it because of my speech. I told my mother all about what the teacher had to say about my chances of success…she refused to believe it…and let me know in the strong Jamaican dialect “patios” that it was her money and I had to go back. Imagine me facing this guy every Saturday for four and half loooooong months knowing how he felt about me? I am eternally grateful that I had a border buster in my mom who cheered me on every leg of the journey.
Years later, the shy kid from Jamaica builds enough courage to try-out for his college drama club. It was parent weekend and the play that was going to be performed was Agatha Christie’s “Mouse Trap.” For those of you that are familiar with the play you know that I had a mountain to climb in trying for this play because all the characters in the play are white and obviously I would need to do some major makeover to getting any role in this play. I did get a role in the play; I played the character of Mr. Paravicini. If you remember the play, you will recall that Mr. Paravicini was not really whom he said he was; that was the loop hole. We did four shows for family weekend with a packed audience; it was great. The memories of standing on stage in the presence of an audience shall forever be with me as long as the cords of memory shall lengthen.
I share this personal story with you because this experience has taught me some crucial lessons that have become my guiding philosophy in life. One of the most important principles I have learned is that ALL of us need a border buster or mentor in our lives, someone who is there to encourage us when we are overwhelmed by the storms of disappointment, fear, anxiety, apprehension, self-doubt.
Poverty doesn’t have to be your barrier to success…!
I grew up in a poverty stricken environment, it was all around me but I refused to let poverty determine who are what I would become. Even though my situation dire, I would eventually go to college and earn graduate degrees in business and education. I have been a consultant to small business owners in helping them to understand their business environment; the purpose being to position and brand themselves. Developing relationships with large corporations to be their main supplier of technological products. We develop strong relationships with large corporations such as CBS to become their main supplier of technological products. So I understand the principle of developing and sustaining long term relationships.
Right training and mentoring can make a difference…!
I have been blessed that along my journey I have had individuals help me just when I needed it. I’m a personal development and business coach because, I am forever reminded that we are traveling this journey alone yet mysteriously together. Yes, I am constantly reminded that to whom much is given, much is required. I have been given much, struggles and success. As such, I am passionate about helping individuals in their personal growth and development.
We cannot avoid that fact trials and tribulations is simply part of living but we simply have to learn how to manage the trials and tribulations of life. You are in the fight of your life, you have invested so much TIME and MONEY and yet you are still struggling in your multi level marketing business; you are losing hope. You have been leaning against the ropes for a long time. your upline, your downline and your crossline is giving you outdated instruction that will not help you in this fight. You are about to throw in the towel and surrender!
